Following a Forex mentor can be the best decision anyone wanting to trade Forex can make. Most new traders waste too much time jumping from one trading system to the next.  Therefore, choosing a Forex mentor to follow is one of the smartest things you can do… but how do you choose one?

The most obvious route is to find the most successful Forex trader and follow them.  But this approach is shortsighted and does not necessarily make for the best match between budding Forex trader and Forex mentor.

Here Are Three Things To Consider Whe Choosing A Forex Mentor…

Without a doubt, you want to pick a REAL Forex trader to follow.  There is too much garbage out there and you should only look to learn from real traders.  While this may sound obvious… too many traders fall for hype instead of substance.

Find out about your potential Forex mentor’s trading style before you decide. There are as many ways to trade Forex as there are traders.  Is the trader a scalper, day trader or swing trader? These are important concerns because you want to find mentoring that teaches you the the kind of trading best suited to your personality.

How does the Forex mentor teach you? We all learn best in a different way.  Do you like to learn best by reading, watching a video, webinars, examples or personal contact?  You want to pick the Forex mentor that teaches in the way you best learn in order to get the most out of the experience.

I want to stress how important it is to have a mentor for your success in Forex.  It can reduce the learning curve dramatically, keep you from getting stressed and save you a lot of money in the long run.  But it is just as important you choose the right Forex mentor for your personality, goals and expectations. When you find the right match… I’m sure you’ll find your Forex trading improves with each passing day.

We want to be Forex traders because we want to make money, right?  But it is more involved than just making money.  If you are a serious Forex trader… you need to treat your trading like a business.

I’ve started, owned and run my own businesses in the real world.  So, I have an advantage over those of you that haven’t.  I know what it takes to run a business… and I’ll be the first to admit it is harder than it seems.

Once you get through the Forex trading week, it is time to take a much needed break.  But it is also time to reflect on your past trading experiences. There is always room for improvement… after all.

One of the things I like to do, if I have time and no plans with the family, is re-read some of the books I have on Forex trading.  I do this not because I am looking for a trading system… but because I want to be reminded of what I am trying to accomplish. I want to be a successful Forex trader… and therefore need to learn from traders who ALREADY are successful.

This means reading books written by real Forex traders.  I can quickly pick these out because they normally talk about a lot more than just trading methods.  (Success in trading is the combination of trader psychology, money management and the trading system you use).

Here are some books I suggest you read, if you are really serious about being a Forex trader…

Long Candle Forex Trading Course by Barry Thornton

I really like this one because it reminds me I don’t need a high winning percentage to be profitable.  As a matter of fact, Barry teaches you how to be a Forex loser (and still make profit). I think this concept is what a lot of traders are missing.  The yput so much pressure on both themselves and the system they are trading… it is easy to get frustrated and give up.

I think it is liberating to remind myself I don’t need to be perfect and losses are part of the business of Forex.

Bird Watching In Lion Country by Durk Du Toit

Probably the most famous book on Forex trading… and with good reason. Again, this separates the real information from all the hype out there.  And again, a lot of time is spent on things like traders psychology and money management. I know these topics might not seem that exciting… but this is exactly what is going to result in you becoming a successful Forex trader.

Forex Confidant by Tom Strignano

Do you think an ex-Bank trade could teach you a thing or two about Forex trading? The great thing about Tom is he had to create his own trading systems, even though he traded professionally.  So, he has a unique perspective on trading Forex that you are not going to get from many people.

Now keep in mind, I re-read these books regardless of the Forex trading system I am using. What you learn from these REAL traders is UNIVERSAL and can help you become a better trader regardless of the specific trading system you are using.   Plus, if you are not already happy with your current trading system, they can teach you a lot as well. I believe very trader should learn from real traders and try to implement their mindset, money management and trading secrets.

In my past post I told you about a complimentary Forex video you need to see.  (The post was called Private Forex Success Video – The Weird Forex Secret).  I just went back and watched the video for the second time… because I really love the concept of  the “Risk Eraser”.

The concept of the “Risk Eraser” might be new to you.  If it is, you are into a treat because this is a concept that can completely change how profitable your trading system is. It is not new to me, and I use a version of this technique when I trade.  As a matter of fact I had an EA created to help me do this technique on autopilot… and I’m still perfecting the parameters.
