Having confidence in the system you are trade is essential for Forex trading success. Having confidence in your trading system is what is going to get you into the market, and keep you placing trades according to your trade plan during the inevitable losing streak. Using high probability price action setups allows Forex traders to build the confidence they need to succeed.

Probably one of the biggest errors new traders commit is overcomplicating their trading. They think the more indicators they add to their charts, the less likely they are to place a losing trade. Unfortunately, they get so much conflicting info that what really happens is they never feel 100% confident about the trades they place. This destroys any confidence they have in the system. And when the inevitable losing streak comes, they lose faith in the system all together and abandon it.

The best thing about price action trade setups is they are easy to identify.  When a price action setup is identified, it is easy to know what to do, especially if you have a trading plan. Keeping things basic like this builds the confidence that you have an “edge” over the market. With this confidence, you can place the trades with a positive expectation.

Now, what must be understood is that no trading system is perfect.  Trying to make it perfect by overcomplicating your trading is only going to lead to a loss of confidence in your system every time there is an inevitable loss. The most important step you can make as a trader is accepting your will suffer losses from time to time, regardless of the trading system or service you are using. But gaining the confidence of using price action setups keeps you trading simple and allows you to identify trading opportunities and get into the market with an edge. It is this edge that is going to lead to more winning trades than losers, and a growing trading account.

Many traders over-complicate their Forex trading with complex indicators and elaborate rules instead of keeping it simple with simple price action. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of ways to trade Forex profitably, but overcomplicating things and jumping from one system to another is not the way to succeed.  To be a profitable trader all you need is an “edge” of high probability setups and the mastery of the system. Price action trade setups are the high probability edge most people are looking for.  Here are a couple of reasons you should consider price action trading.

All by themselves, price action setups are very reliable. They become even stronger when combined with the confluence of other price levels. Confluence happens when there are numerous signals or levels line up at the same place you get the price action entry. Let’s say you get the setup at a level on the chart with strong horizontal support or resistance, a trendline and the 50 Fibonacci level. Do you think all those things happening at the same place would make for a safe and high probability trade entry? Without overcomplicating things, mixing price action setups with strong support and resistance levels make a very reliable trading system.

You don’t need to have a lot of trade setups every day when you keep things simple with price action. You do have to have the patience to wait for the most powerful setups to develop before jumping into the market. Trade better setups less often can make your trading not only less stressful, but more profitable as well.

Your price action Forex trade plan is what holds everything together. The temptation when trading something simple is to think you can keep everything in your head and know what you should do in every situation. However, we all know is is one thing to know something and quite another to DO it under live market conditions when real money is on the line. Having a trade plan keeps you from over-trading and over-leveraging your account. Make sure you have a trade plan, even when you are using something as reliable as price action.

im watching and at nearing the end of your video. the way you trade has always been the idea that i think a successful trader should trade. i trade that way myself but have never perfected it i kinda got the idea, but i dont know how to really do it consistently with certain accuracy, all i do is draw trend lines and try to trade reversals and breakout.. your video has helped me alot. its been a frustrating journey. believe me ornot, when i was watching your video, i teared a little bit, yes thats how much passion i have and the desire to be successfull in it. you helped me confirmed that all along i wasnt just being in my own world. theres a way to trade successffully.

Thats how i always wanted to trade , and i was, using trend line only and price action. but i didnt know that we have to wait for a reversal to trade breakout, your video taught me that we have to wait for a reversal first and i have seen in most of the chart that you’re right. you gave me the missing link that i need, the entry point. theres a pattern and its a game of probability. i never believe in much of indicators. i never used any. just trends on all time frame normally M15 H1 and H4 and even week.

The Forex Currency Index Indicator is very powerful. It can tell you at a glance the strength and weakness of different currencies and on which time frame. Do you see how valuable this information is?

Let’s say you know the USD is strong (+5) and the GBP is weak (-5) on the M15 time frame. What do you think you will see when you go to the GBPUSD M15 chart? You should see price going down. So, your best trading opportunity is to look for SHORT entries to exploit the strength of the dollar and the weakness of the pound!

(This is just an example chart… so don’t waste your time trying to figure out the indicator combination)

If you are like me, there has been times where your Forex trading chart is loaded with tons of indicators, colored graphs and squiggly lines.  It is hard not to get caught in the trap of looking for the right combination of Forex indicators to give us the edge and increase our win rate.  But more often or not, the results are the exact opposite of what we hoped for.  In a minute, I’m going to show you what my trading chart looks like now… and why I think a clean Forex chart makes for better trades.

But first, I want to tell you where this “clean is better” idea came from…

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been going over everything inside Learn Forex Live by professional Forex trader Hector DeVille.  If you have ANY desire whatsoever learning how real professional traders trade, then you should take advantage of Hector’s free DVD and 14 day trial offer.  I got in with the expectation of canceling my subscription before the trial period was up, like I’ve done with a lot of similar sites, but I’ve decided to stay in.

Why?

Frankly, I’ve learned more about successful Forex trading during the 14 day trial than I have surfing the web, buying ebooks and watching free videos COMBINED! One of the first things Hector teaches is that common indicators really don’t work all that well, and are actually distracting traders from what really matters… PRICE ACTION! More often than not, Forex traders become nothing more than “indicator followers” and therefore don’t ever learn how to read PRICE ACTION correctly.  This is one of the reasons there are a lot of struggling traders out there.

Now, that does not mean that ALL indicators are bad indicators.  As a matter of fact, Hector gives away some of his most powerful Custom Indicators. But what I’ve learned over the past couple of weeks is that these indicators aid in reading Price Action… and are not a substitute for it like other indicators.

As I said above, Hector provides the Custom Indicators and Chart Template to be used with the MetaTrader4 platform.  Here is what my chart looks like now…

OK, I know you might not be able to see it that well, but I just wanted you to get an idea of how CLEAN it is.  I’ll be honest, this is a lot cleaner and easier to read than my previous charts loaded with indicators.  And by applying the trading methods Hector teaches… a whole lot profitable as well!

I’ve placed some letters on the chart and I want to go over some of the details…

A. You’ll notice a shaded box.  The box surrounds the entire trading day’s activity and is shaded blue if the market went up, and red if the market went down.  This is a quick visual reference that shows what price is doing over each trading session.

B. These dotted lines represent Support (blue) and Resistance (pink) levels.  These are generated automatically according to how price is moving.  This automatically bring your attention to price levels that need to be kept track of… either to use when determining Entry levels or Take Profit levels.

C. Swing High and Swing Low indication arrows.  These blue and red arrows are not indications to buy or sell.  They mark the major swing high and swing low areas.  This is great to get a quick understanding or which direction the market is moving and whether the market is trending or in a range.

D. This is an ATR (Average True Range) indicator.  This show how much the currency pair usually moves, and how much it has moved so far in the trading session.  This is great to help determine whether a trade has the potential to move as much as you would like, or possibly done for the trading session.

E. To the left of the “E” you’ll see some horizontal lines (dark and light) at the top and bottom of the trading day.  These are actually visual representations of the Average True Range.  This is essential for Intra-Day trading and knowing where you are in the market for that trading session.

F. These are 0 and 50 lines.  As you may or may not know, round numbers like 100 or 50 are psychological barriers.  So, these lines represent potential sticking points in price action.

G. Short Term Market Momentum.  This is a visual representation of which direction price is moving (for the chart you are using).

H. Long term Market Bias.  This is the direction price is moving over the long term.  So, for example, if you want to trade only with the overall market direction… you should only look for trades when these two indicators are in agreement.

Wow… even though the chart looks very clean, there is a LOT of valuable information there to help you make trading decisions!

Like I said, Hector gives you all these Custom Indicators and even a Chart Template so you can make you charts look exactly the same.  But more importantly, he teaches how to read the charts and trade like a true Forex professional. After going through the Beginner Forex Module and Swing Trading Module, I’m convinced this is the best Forex learning experience I’ve had to date.  I can’t wait to learn the other Forex trading strategies Hector teaches in later Modules!

Forex trading does not have to be complex to be profitable. As a matter of fact, many beginner currency traders confuse complexity for thoroughness. It is a thorough trading plan that makes you a huge success, not a complex one. Do you know the difference?

The Difference Between Complexity and Thoroughness:

First, some definitions are in order…

According to the Random House Dictionary COMPLEX is defined as “composed of many interconnected parts” or “so complicated or intricate as to be hard to understand or deal with”. I personally don’t want to base my trading activities on a system that is confusing and hard to understand. This seems like a great way to make bad trades because the more complex indicators you use, the easier it is to misinterpret what the charts are telling you to do.

On the other hand, THOROUGH is defined by the Random House dictionary as “executed without negligence or omissions” or “extremely attentive to accuracy and detail”. OK… now we are talking. A Forex trading system should be executed without negligence or omissions and extremely attentive to accuracy and detail. Those qualities are what make for a winning Forex formula.

An Example Of A Thorough Forex Trading System:

One of the best ways to understand the difference between a complex and thorough trading plan is with an example. There is a lot that goes into a winning trading strategy.

• First, you need a proven trading system.
• You need to identify what type of trader you are and what time frame you will trade on.
• You need a simple way to figure out what the charts are telling you… and by this I mean price action and not a lot of indicators.
• You need to know the exact entry point of your trade.
• You need to know where to place your stop loss.
• You need to be able to identify profit targets and calculate your risk.
• You need to be able to decide if the trade is even worth taking according to the risk – reward ratio.
• Then, once in the trade, you need to know the exact steps you are going to take to get out of the trade with as much profit as possible.

Do you see how thorough that trading plan is? All aspects of making a winning trade is addressed. You know what to look for on the charts. How to plan the entire trade even before you place the order. How to determine your risk and reward ratio. And you know the exact steps you’ll take both to get into the trade and out of the trade with profit and little risk.

What you didn’t see is a complex set of rules that are hard to understand and follow. You see, there are already a lot of steps to focus on when trading with a high probability of winning. The last thing you want to do is add complexity to the trading that diverts your attention from being thorough. Because in my opinion, a thorough trade is a good trade.

I think a lot of Forex traders get caught up with complexity. They think if they add a ton of indicators to their chart and identify some “secret” combination of indications they are going to be successful. But while there are struggling to find this unbeatable combination of indicators… they are missing profitable trades based on simple and proven trading strategies. Plus, they are committing the biggest sin of all… they are not being thorough in their trading.

In my opinion, most of the Forex trading systems you find advertised on the web focus on complexity rather than thoroughness.  And the only way to really learn thorough Forex trading is from a real pro.  Therefore, I encourage you to take this 14 day trial and get your Free DVD.

Learn Forex Live – with Hector DeVille

I realize there is a lot of info on this blog about where to get great Forex information… and what to stay away from.  But at the end of the day, it is better to find one place to focus all your attention. I have been searching for this “all in one solution” for a while now and I think I’ve found it!

In the long run, learning Forex the right way isn’t going to come from buying every Forex product that offers some good information. The trick is to find the right info, focus ONLY on that info and then PRACTICE what you’ve learned until you get good at it.
